Let's become kind, to the kind!

"Kindness to animals" from simply choosing this theme as a part of our subject 'development Communication' in the fourth semester of bachelor's in journalism and mass communication. We were given two options, one was 'awareness for cycling' and 'kindness to animals' and drafting an answer to what I choose and why I choose, I chose kindness to animals owing to three reasons:
1. My flamboyant fascination towards animals though being afraid of most of them
2. I always wished to have a cat but my mom not allowing me, stating 'You aren't even responsible to take care for yourself, ofcourse you  are not going to care for the little animal'
3. Because there is an ongoing debate about Animal welfare, slaughter and choice in the ongoing political scenario with reference to 'PETA'
I chose kindness to animals.

But with the theme sounding flowery and so called 'cute', it is a real serious issue for which we need to sensitize people. We haven't yet understood the importance of 'feeling protected' every living being on this planet craves for.

We swooped into studying the nature and attitude of people towards animals around them by conducting a survey on March 22, 2019 after brainstorming for days preparing oneself for a survey and framing survey questions. The journey of interacting with people regarding this topic was beautiful, emotional and eclectic, but also on ground, realistic and pragmatic.

While for some feeding animals was all to procure utility, for most it was companionship and that made me happy.
Happier to know that for every respondent, animals are a part of their community. Joyous and bliss responses so far, stories narrated by them when asked to share a memory they had with an animal are not so joyous for sure.
While few had great ones with their pets, one of my respondents had an appalling tale to narrate that she witnessed near kamati baag; 'An accident'. An accident, where a squirrel was wandering on the road, got stabbed under a wheel of the car passing by, that crashed it. My respondent was helpless, and could do nothing to save the tiny one, as it happened in a second and then all finished at once. While she was unable to narrate it faltering and stammering, reminding her of the dreadful incident she had. I decided to pen it down in words.
