Are item numbers actually entertaining?
Are item numbers actually entertaining? I've come across some ridiculous lyrics with their abusive and cheap content targeting women and men. And it is absolutely pathetic to know that how people consume it as their daily entertainment.
One of the worst songs I came across is the song 'pinky hai paise walo ki' from movie 'zanjeer' starring priyanka chopra.
So the song begins like this:
'Bol bol Rani kya chahie? Bungla chahie ya car chahie? To which pinky replies 'Cash chahie muje cash chahie'
Is she an object? No! Is she a product? Is she someone you can buy in exchange of a car or bunglow and compare her value with any of these? And is it really necessary to portray men in this manner? Do men really buy women or try to get her by doing this? No, not all but these type of songs undoubtedly give birth to more such morons.
But what is disgusting is, when the woman herself replies 'I need cash'. She herself Sells her, are all women really hungry for money? She promotes her own objectification. If some men would have asked me the same, I would have slapped him tight.
Further the lines 'paisa phenk, tamasha dekh, nachegi pinky full too late. Answer hai saare sawalon ki.. Mumbai ki naa dilli waalon ki, pinky hai paise waalon ki'
Is that what we really wish to teach our girls? On one hand media talks about women empowerment and on the other hand asks women to be someone who can be your slave, or completely yours if you owe cash. And why do such songs promote that men want women who entertain him and become slaves if he owes cash? Do all men really want that?
Infact now it gets even worse with lines such as 'world famous hai mera glamour bada, haye cable connection ke Jesa maza'
And look! Who's doing this video? Priyanka chopra, who often pretends to be a feminist and talks about empowering women all the time, promotes such content. Infact the YouTube video has 2.4 million views and 11,000 likes.
The problem is people can easily notice when it is in black and white eg. If a boy forces a girl to get into a relationship with him or if a girl craves for a guy's cash, people know it is wrong but at the same time these people enjoy such vulgar lyrics because they are blind towards media. They do not have the cognitive ability or the rational discretion power to decide what media shows is right or wrong.
